Fireworks and Crack Dealers

So, nearly a month after my last post, I'm finally sitting down to update this thing.

Since I've been up here, Matt's come to visit twice -- once with Steve and Amy in tow, and then again by himself. I've been down to visit him once, right before he came up the second time, which gave us about a week together all told. That was amazing. No reason to go into details, except to say we have a really good time when we're together. :-) It's hard to be away from him for such long periods of time, but we're both dealing with it relatively well.

Work helps. I did get trained after talking to that manager, Trish, and I picked up on it quickly and have been getting pretty decent hours. I need to work some more nights -- I've had mostly lunches -- but even working lunches I'm making good money. Yesterday I worked a 12-hour day and made over $200. Cool, huh?

Having my cousins here helps, too. I've done a little tubing, and even tried some kneeboarding after watching Anna do it. When Matt was here we taught them all Five Crowns and Farkle, and now they always want to play cards or dice. I love my family. Mimi and Papa take some getting used to, but they mostly give me my space and let me do what I want. It's not like I'm a problem child, and I've been helping them out a LOT around the house, so we get along. Uncle Dave and his family have been here for a few weeks off and on, now, and they're lots of fun -- he's hilarious and takes us out on the boat whenever we want, and Aunt Kim is really cool. Anna's getting to the age where we can really have some nice conversations, which is neat. The other night I taught her Canasta, and we played cards and talked from like 11:00 until after 1:00 in the morning. It was a lot of fun. David, on the other hand, is definitely a teenager. So is Vince. They're both really moody and it's hard to get them to talk or hang out. David only comes out of his shell when he's playing guitar -- which he's good at, so it's cool, but still. And Vince is a toss-up. I've tried to get him to hang out, watch movies, play cards, and sometimes he will and sometimes he won't. It's weird. I look at them and wonder if I was really like that when I was a younger teen. Scary. Kathy and Brian and their kids have been here for a week or so -- they're the ones Matt and I saw when we went to Phoenix. Sarah is still crazy. It's funny, when Ali was the youngest one here we thought she was kind of loud, but next to Sarah, Ali is an absolute mouse. And Ben and Stephen are much more outgoing and fun than they were when they were younger. Stephen actually gives hugs now! And Ben not only talks, he won't freaking shut up sometimes. :-P It's good to have them all here. And it's nice to be here with them all, because for the last few summers I've missed people because we're not all on the same schedule. Being here all year means I get to see everybody. :-)

So what have I been doing? I've been working, obviously. Making good money. Meeting interesting people. Last night I had a table of five people. Really nice, offered to buy me drinks and dinner. Gave me a $74 tip on a $177 tab. That's so insane it's not even funny. And when I told Eric, the bartender, about it, he said "Yeah, that guy can afford it. He's a crack dealer."

And he was serious.

Is that scary or what????

Other than working and hanging out with whoever's here, be it family or Matt or both, I've also arranged some music -- I finished an arrangement of Imagine for the Madrigals and I'm working on Africa for the FUtones. It's a lot of fun, actually. And I'm pretty proud of the work I've done. And beyond that... I've just been loving being here. It's absolutely my favorite place in the world. It's beautiful and fun and easy-going and just perfect. It's heaven on earth when Matt's here, but even when I'm alone it's a wonderful place to be. Nights when the stars are out, you can see shooting stars all over the sky. The sunrise comes over the other side of the lake every morning around 5:30 and wakes me up, and I always take a minute to enjoy it before turning over and going back to sleep. Every weekend, and sometimes on weekdays, vacationers set off fireworks all around the lake. Especially over the fourth -- we had some crazy fireworks shows. The lake has gotten progressively warmer so it's actually fun to get in, not just a feat of strength. I wish I could bring all my friends up here to visit. Maybe someday I'll have part ownership of the house and I'll be able to bring everyone I want to up here. That would be nice.

Anyway, that's my life in a nutshell. It's busier than it sounds, just because there's always something to do, but I'll try and update again soon. Sometime before going to Hawaii. :-)
