Disclaimer: This is a freaking long post.

I had forgotten how much I enjoyed working at Lucky's. Towards the end of the summer it was messed up for me a little bit by all of my drama with Matt, but working there today was a lot of fun. I missed those people. They're nice, but totally sketch, which is great. =)

It's been a crazy few weeks. And sad to say, Christmas break isn't really going to be much better. As if I'm not busy/stressed/tired enough already. I drove home yesterday, in the freezing rain and awful road conditions and working on ummmm.... 4 hours of sleep? 5? maybe? With about 3 or 4 the night before, as well? So I was literally falling asleep at the wheel a couple times. Scary. I had to turn the music up till it almost was hurting my ears and dance -- seriously, I was practically spastic I was dancing so violently -- to keep myself awake. And it hadn't really been the best morning before that, either. I woke up at 8:30... okay, closer to 8:40... and frantically got ready for the morning's RA meeting at 9:00, to which Eddie (boss-man) was 45 minutes late. So for NO REASON AT ALL, I had been up like an hour before the meeting even started. I was not happy with Eddie. But anyway, we paired up and started doing the room checks almost immediately, and those went relatively smoothly and quickly once Emily and I got the hang of it.

Until the power went out. (Did I mention there was an ice storm the night before? And all of Greenville practically collapsed in shock and ice? And like all of Furman's trees are broken shells of their former beautiful selves now?)

We were on Emily's hall when the entire school lost power, and it was DARK. Things went a little slower after that. =( But we finally finished up at around 10:30 or a little after, and I practically ran back to my room to finish last-minute packing and stuff. (Bounds and his sister had said they would drive 85 with me since the weather was so bad and I killed my cell phone with Dr. Pepper last week, and I was supposed to meet them at his apartment... I felt sure I was already keeping them waiting and I felt really bad, so I went as quickly as I could.) I went out to pull my car around at about 10:45 and was presented with a bit of a problem.

It was frozen solid.

I managed to get my door open and started the car to warm it up. Then, another problem: no ice scraper, and TONS of ice all over the windows and windshield. So I searched my car for some kind of tool. The best thing I could come up with was an empty Dr. Pepper bottle. .... Imagine, if you will, a half-abandoned parking lot, busy with people loading cars and driving away, and me, standing over the windshield of my poor, frozen Camry, furiously beating it with an empty Dr. Pepper bottle. Occasionally pausing to say goodbye to someone passing by in the parking lot. Funny picture, isn't it? Yeah, except I didn't have gloves besides my nice leather ones from Bounds and so I was picking off the loose ice with bare hands, and it took nearly half an hour to finally get my car to the point where I could drive it relatively safely. *Note to self: Get an ice scraper or risk clearly identifying yourself to the general public as a true Southern girl when it comes to wintry conditions.

So then, around 11:15 now, I finally started loading my car. Bounds showed up before I even got the first load down the stairs, and he helped me with the really heavy stuff before going back to his apartment to finish his own stuff and wait for me. I was over there by 11:30 and we headed over to the Vista house to pick up his friend Kay who was riding home with him. I needed gas in a bad way, and as far as we could see NOTHING had power, so I was feeling a bit nervous at this point. But we drove back along Poinsett and finally found a gas station that had power and stopped there. Bounds got gas first and then headed over to Wendy's to grab lunch, with the understanding that I'd get gas and then join them. Well, I went inside to pay for the gas and right as I got to the counter, the power flickered off. *Inner monologue: ARE YOU KIDDING ME???* So I got to wait five minutes after it came back on again before the lady felt safe letting me get gas. Oi. I got to Wendy's at about 12:40 and joined Bounds and his sister in line. Called the parents and told them the deal. Waited in line for 45 minutes. I kid you not. It was 1:30 before we finally got on the road. And then the sleeping-at-the-wheel thing commenced.

So yeah, I got home last night around 5, chilled out until going to dinner at 6:30ish, came back and got in the bath at like 8:30, fell asleep in the bath until 10:15, slept off and on till 12, then couldn't go back to sleep until 5 this morning. Then woke up at 7:30 (which is when I was supposed to BE at work), hurried like whoa, got to work at 8:10, and worked until 5. (Am I tired? You think?) And then I had Gallery Choir rehearsal tonight at 7 for the Candlelight Service at church on Sunday.

Life never stops. Nor does it slow down, I'm beginning to realize. It's Christmas BREAK, and this is how my schedule looks, as of right now:

12/31: something for New Year's Eve, of course
1/1: Recovery period =)
1/2: Back to Furman
1/4: Classes start up again.

Ridiculous. Completely, totally ridiculous.

But at least Bounds will be here on the 28th. =) I can't wait. And at least work is fun. And I will get paid a relatively substantial amount of money. If I work as much as I'm scheduled to, I might pull in close to $500. That would be so freaking nice. Having money again. Wowsers. I can only imagine. =)

Yikes, this post is long. I'm going downstairs to read before it gets any worse. Though I have the distinct feeling that this will be my de-stressor over the break. I feel remarkably calmer having written in this thing. Strange. Until tomorrow (probably), then.
